Kompa (or Compass, Konpa, Kompa, Kompas,…) is a musical kind of Haiti invented by the saxophonist Jean-baptiste Nemours (compas direct), derived from the Meringue and close to Calypso. It was a great success of the end of 1970 until the years 1980 in the Caribbean thus giving rise to the French West Indies with another musical kind : Zouk.
